Haemonchus on surface of abomasum

Group: Bursate, non-migratory, trichostrongylid nematode
Host species: Cattle, sheep, goats
Features:
  •  Large worms, easily seen by eye 
  • Twisted, blood-filled gut appears red-brown in fresh specimens
  • In females gut twisted with uterus giving a red/white striped appearance - "barber's pole worm"
  • Males have a prominent bursa
